Far away from Kandy

This three days seminar program was scheduled by "BIOLOGY GUILD" society and as a member of the society I was fortunate to take a place in this great event. So here is a short description about that wonderful opportunity.

A charm and beautiful village lays close to Monaragala city margin called Athiliya Wewa. Being rural people of the village have lost many opportunities and privileges in contrast to other regions of the Island, from all such events education takes level one priority as our believe and that was inspired the Biology Guild to conduct a three days seminar program for the O/L students of the Athiliya Wewa Junior School as an initiative step.

The program was basically focused for Science, Mathematics and English which become most critical subjects and hardly find teachers in most of the remote schools. With the help of the staff members and good support of the parents of students and the seminar was expanded until the late night each day.
It wouldn’t be a perfect effort for each and every student to prepare for their examination which was 4 weeks ahead, but I’m pretty sure everyone would have improved their knowledge and the competency in different manners. That was the ultimate wealth we had at the end of the program and it was quite difficult to hide tears of the both parties when we left that beautiful village and the people.
If I didn’t mention about the people who were behind this piece of work it would be a great mistake so the gratitude should be granted for the senior treasurer who is always behind us helping and providing advices, the principal Athiliya wewa junior school and the staff members made a wonderful atmosphere for us to make this program succeed and finally the members of the Biology Guilds.
